Sidewalk Safari Buy CD Now
“Sidewalk Safari”, Wayne’s first project as band leader, is an intriguing mix of ethnic grooves and urban Jazz. Drawing on the rhythms of Cuba, Brazil, and the Caribbean, and blending them with Jazz and Funk, his creative approach is both soulful and cerebral. Joined by Tommy Sciple (Bass), and Michael Skinkus (Percussion), the group’s fiery rhythmic undercurrent supports the inspired improvisations of Tony Dagradi (Sax & Flute) and Larry Sieberth (Piano & Keyboards). The Project includes five original compositions plus unique arrangements of four Jazz favorites. From the beautiful ballad “Scattered Showers”, to the burning “Guess What”, to the mysterious “Another Dimension”, Wayne’s original tunes hold their own with Sonny Rollins’ “Airegin” (Afro-Cuban Style), and Wayne Shorter’s “Children of the Night” (3/4 Samba). The Standard “My Favorite Things” gets a funky Latin rendition while the title cut is a grooving 12/8 featuring Trumpet and Sax.
